Elemental Shrine Battle: Save the Fire Shrine
Sometimes you’re needed at the most inopportune moments! From deep within Snow Top Village—after acquiring Flex and making your way out of the Sulfur Cavern—Ortho tells you where you can find the Shadow Troll holding your next Elemental Warrior, 40 Below. As you begin the journey to the Shadow Well, you hear Ortho’s voice again, this time expressing an uneasy feeling that something may be amiss in the Badlands. He dismisses it, and you think you’re free to go about your merry way. But then Ortho pipes in again: Something is amiss in the Badlands, and you have to go. Now.
You’ll need to exit Snow Top Village the same way you came in, using faithful Chilla to navigate the icy walls. Your horse awaits you in the Badlands. If your map is not showing, click the left stick to make it appear. Using the blinking red dot on your map as a guide, make your way as quickly as you can to your destination.
Getting to the Fire Shrine can be tricky. It lies atop a rugged hill, and there is only one travelable path that leads up to it. You will know you have reached the correct path when you see a multitude of Trolls blocking your way. The mass of angry green warriors looks intimidating, but all you need to do is pull the left trigger or the right trigger, and your horse will plough right through them.
Once you get to the top of the hill, you will see a series of catapults, lined up and ready to fire—except the ammunition buckets are empty. What you need to do is load those catapults as fast as you can. Don’t waste a moment trying to battle the Trolls up here; the soldiers have them well in hand. You do need to worry about the two dragons flying overhead, though. To prevent an air attack, slay them quickly using Chilla, then get right to the catapults. Pay attention to the Fire Shrine’s life meter on your screen as you get to work.
Clumpy, molten-looking balls lay scattered about the platform. That’s your ammunition. Depending on your preference, you can use Major Ruin, Kameo, or even Chilla to move the projectile into position. Get one of the balls and cue it up at the base of a catapult’s loading ramp. Then, if you haven’t already, morph into Major Ruin, and use his Boulder Rush technique to knock the fiery ball into the catapult’s bucket. Once the ammunition is in the bucket, the catapult will launch automatically. Hunt around for more ammunition, and load the next catapult. Load all three successfully, and the Fire Shrine is saved!

Tip: When knocking the ammunition, don’t hit it too hard. The ball might overshoot its target, and you could find yourself in the bucket instead. If you do wind up in this unfortunate position, you’ll be hurled into the air like a rocket, and once you land, you’ll have to scramble to make your way back up to the Fire Shrine—without your horse to help you get through the sea of angry Trolls. Chances are, even if you make it to the catapults back in time, you won’t have enough time remaining to get the job done.
