The WotNot Book:

Boss Battle: Corallis

Corallis is regarded as one of the most difficult bosses to beat in the game. This is probably because defeating Corallis requires rapid switching between Major Ruin and Deep Blue, forcing you to adjust between their different control schemes. Deep Blue can be challenging to maneuver in the water, too. When you first acquire this wily Warrior, make sure to get lots of swimming (and shooting) practice—the more adept you are controlling Deep Blue, the better your chances are of taking Corallis down relatively quickly.

Corallis has an attack that electrifies the water on the ground and damages you if you touch it. Some players like to use Kameo’s hovering ability to avoid this attack, but this isn’t really necessary.  As long as you keep moving, you can use Major Ruin and roll along the outer most edges of the pool. Stay in motion, and don’t roll through the water, and Corallis’ attacks won’t hit you.

Use Major Ruin’s Boulder Rush attack to knock a boom-root plant up a ramp and into Corallis. This is a difficult shot to make and you don’t have much time, so if you miss just return to the outer edge of the pool and use continuous circling until you’re ready to take another shot. Stick to using the ramp closest to Corallis—the boom-root plants don’t fly far enough to make it clear across the room. Again, the real keys are too keep moving and to be patient—if you miss your shot with Major Ruin, just return to continuously circling the pool and wait for your next shot.

Once you score a successful hit with a boom-root plant, Corallis submerges. Quickly change to Deep Blue and get into the water, and start firing at the pearls on the end of Corallis’ tentacles. If you’re fast (and a good aim) you can take out as many as two pearls before exiting the pool and changing back to Major Ruin. Regardless, take your shots and exit the pool quickly as soon as Corallis leaves the pool. If you don’t get out, Corallis electrifies the pool and fries you.

Repeat this sequence until all of Corallis’ pearls are destroyed and you rescue Lenya. Lenya will ultimately reward you with Chilla.
