[EK 762.6.1.11] What’s it like being one of the daughters of the Elfin Royal Family?
Well, I’m sure you think it’s all fun and games, and that I get to do whatever I want. Actually, it’s just the opposite; I have so many duties to perform, things to learn and functions to attend, and I’m not even Queen yet! When you consider all of that and keeping a watchful eye on my little sister, too, it’s an exhausting life. I’m sure that it’s possible to give others some of the hard work, but that’s not for me to decide. At least, not yet.
How do you like it at Elf Preparatory Academy—what are your favorite subjects?
I really don’t care too much for it. It seems pointless to learn knowledge and skills that, once I’m Queen, my aides will already know more about than I shall. My father never went to the Academy and he was the greatest King in our history. However, if I have to say, I would choose the magical arts; it’s independent study so you don’t have to worry about being paired up with a partner… They’re always intimidated by me, particularly the boys, and offensive magic seems to come easily to me. The more powerful I can be, the easier it will be for people to put their trust in me as a leader, and the less likely anyone will be to rebel against me.
What are your favorite activities—what do you like to do for fun?
I think I’ve already answered that. For me, fun is learning to harness the power of ancient magic and preparing to receive the Elemental Warriors. I don’t want any other distractions, and I certainly don’t want to gambol around in the mud like a pig and play-fight like a child. Perhaps Kameo thinks that that sort of thing is acceptable but everyone knows that’s not how Queens are supposed to behave.
What’s your favorite food?
My favorite food is probably sparkle cake. It takes a long time to create, but that’s not a problem because I don’t have to make it anyway…. I have the castle baker to do that for me. Heh heh. I’m always careful to watch what I eat, of course. If I was running around outside like an idiot all day I could probably stuff my face too, but that isn’t dignified at all.
What’s your favorite music?
I don’t listen to music. It’s pointless unless you have nothing better to do than bang sticks together and screech about love like some starstruck teenager.
Have you read any good books lately?
Just books on magic. I don’t read fiction; imagining yourself in other places and other situations is a waste of time. If you have nothing better to do than pine for far-off lands, go there and stop complaining. As heir to the throne my life is quite exciting enough, thank you.
What has it been like growing up alongside a sister of nearly the same age—how would you describe your relationship with Kameo?
Kameo’s very insecure, if you hadn’t noticed. If she’s not surrounding herself with fawning admirers who pretend to be her friends because she’s a princess, she’s sucking up to our family or gazing wistfully out of some window. I suppose that’s only natural, because she’ll be the younger stay-at-home sister while I’m busy and I’m sure she’s jealous. I keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn’t do anything stupid that would ruin her chances – or mine.
You lost your father, King Solon, at a very young age—how do you feel that has affected you?
I do not want to talk about that. Have you finished with these endless questions? I do have important things to do, you know!
As coronation day approaches, what are your thoughts about receiving the Element of Power and the Transformation Magic?
I don’t believe there’s anything to think about. It’s my birthright, it’s what I deserve and I’ve waited my entire life for the power that will let me show how good and powerful a leader I can be. Once I have that power – the Transformation Magic and the Element of Power, I mean – I can put all my critics in their place and everyone will admire me once they see the changes I’ll make. I’m going to make my father proud of me, and I won’t let anyone stand in the way of that.
