The Making Of Kameo:

Web Ninjas Preview Kameo

The professionals who work on the Kameo: Elements of Power™ community website got special approval to play the game early. You should have heard the cheers and seen the sparkles in the eyes when we learned that we were going to get our own sneak preview! A number of us trotted down to Playtest Room C, dropping everything for the chance to play Kameo on the Xbox 360. We spent a whole day playing.

Here’s what we had to say once we’d come down from our clouds:

I admit I’m not normally much of an action/platform gamer, but after a few hours with Kameo, I was both impressed and surprised. Kameo’s ability to shape-shift into different creatures provides a bigger ass-kicking arsenal than the weapon load out in most 3D shooters (my preferred venue), and creates many unique and interesting combinations for navigating and fighting through Kameo’s world. In addition, Kameo’s alternate forms can be leveled up with new and powerful attacks, and you can even buy alternate skins for each form if you feel like a new look is in order.

I spent seven hours with Kameo in one sitting and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. It’s an easy game to like: the story was solid, the graphics were virtually photo realistic (seeing Chilla climb up a castle wall was particularly sharp), and the game balance, feel of the controls, and the general play were all spot-on fun. It’s challenging without being too difficult, and there are any number of ways to get past enemies based on your own choices. Lots of sidequests and good replay value on top of everything else—I can’t wait to spend a few more hours with Kameo.

Kameo is a beautiful sight to see with all its sharp colors in all its pixel glory. So many things to see at one time, and what a fun game to play too! I highly recommend Kameo to everyone…kids and adults of all ages, male and female…and for adults to play this with their kids. This game is like the best of the computer animated films…only it’s a game.

Creativity is the name of the game in Kameo. Between playing bad-guy bowling with Major Ruin and boxing with Pummel Weed, Kameo plays like multiple games in one. Any game that gives me the opportunity for creativity is a 10 in my book! Kudos to Kameo!

Kameo might look like a kick-ass young elven chick, but the best part of the game is her is ability to transform into different monsters. Chilla slams though enemies like a glacial gorilla, Major Ruin is a deadly spiked ball of fury, Rubble hurls chunks of rock in all directions…and the ability to shift into all of these beastly forms makes the game more fun to play. When she’s not fighting, she soars across the landscape, menacing her enemies as she hovers above the ground. While there’s plenty of plot in the background, I wanted plenty of action…and since Kameo is usually a click or two away from a monstrous transformation, I got what I wanted.

Doomed! The moment the load screen passed and the game started, I was entranced. The improvement in graphics quality (compared to Xbox 1) is remarkable. I found the battles challenging (and died a few times), but that was half the fun! The story is engaging, and I was overcome with curiosity as I played. I love dark, spooky stories, and Kameo fits the bill with a delightful sense of humor. There’s so much more to explore, and I can’t wait to be able to play the game all the way to the end. That makes my job so much easier!
